Today, we take a moment to celebrate and thank one of the 2021-2022 Celebrate United Award Winners. Bill Roberts was awarded the Volunteer Person of the Year award because of his passionate, dedicated service to United Way, dating back more than 30 years. Bill recently accepted his award and gave us more insights into his volunteer history and why he chooses to Live United with us.
It’s no secret, volunteers are the backbone of most successful organizations. At United Way of Kenosha, we are no different. Bill Roberts is one of those people who has helped UWKC behind the scenes and on the frontlines — for more than 30 years.
Bill describes a time when he was out in the community and met a family who needed help. Due to his involvement with United Way, he was aware of the many community services available. After speaking with the family more, he was able to connect them with one of our partner agencies to find the help they needed.
“Getting involved has made me more aware of my community,” says Bill Roberts. “I have realized just how much of an impact we can make. Through my volunteering, I live UNITED by keeping in mind throughout my day where exactly needs come up. There’s so much need in Kenosha County, and how do you address it all? Then, I bring that knowledge back to United Way, especially with my involvement in CIC.”
In the past year, Bill has served as a comforting constant to new staff members as they transitioned to their roles. Bill provided much-needed insights on processes, programs, and partnerships. He also lends a helping hand around the office, to the Readers Are Leaders and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance programs, and on the Community Investment Committee.
In truth, there likely is not a part of our organization that Bill has not been a part of one way or another, and for that, we must thank you. Thank you for all that you do, Bill!
“I appreciate you for being there with us when we needed you the most,” says Carolynn Friesch, CEO at UWKC. “We appreciate all of Bill’s time and sacrifice over the past year.”
United Way of Kenosha County is honored by the commitment of our community partners. We appreciate and thank each one of our partners, and award winners, who remain dedicated to helping people thrive right here in Kenosha County. It is a great honor to work with, and among, them. Our Annual Celebrate United Awards, recognize and thank the individuals and partners who exemplified the caring power of our community throughout their workplace campaign and beyond.
