United Way of Kenosha County highlights one of our Community Investment Partners, Lloyd Lewin and Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha.
Lloyd Lewin currently serves as the Director of Outreach, School, & Prevention at the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha, where he leads the Gang Prevention & Youth Empowerment Program (YEP). In this role, he supervises a gang diversion initiative that provides mentorship, pro-social activities, and family engagement through case management for participating youth. Under Lloyd's leadership, the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha has strengthened its presence within the Kenosha Unified School District, particularly among middle and high school youth. Notably, YEP participants have shown significant improvements in school attendance, academic performance, and a reduction in involvement with the juvenile justice system.
Lloyd earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in August 2024. Growing up in a household that prioritized education spurred his academic and athletic achievements, including playing collegiate football at University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
Having once benefited from the Boys & Girls Club as a child, Lloyd deeply understands the transformative power of mentorship and guidance from caring adults. He considers it an honor to pay forward the same support and mentorship he received, recognizing the trust placed in him by the youth of Kenosha.
Here from Lloyd as he shares a heartwarming story of the impact being made through the Boys & Girls Club.
"Today, I have the privilege of sharing a story that embodies the resilience and determination of our young people—a story that highlights the impact of our Youth Empowerment Program and the Boys & Girls Club’s Summer Youth Employment Program.
In 2024 we had a remarkable young woman, Kaylee, who join us through our Youth Empowerment Program at Bullen Middle School. Kaylee came to us at just 14 years old, with dreams that went beyond what most teenagers typically look forward to. She wasn't hoping to buy new clothes or get her first phone with her earnings. Instead, Kaylee’s focus was on something much more urgent and courageous—she wanted to help her family keep their home.
In June, Kaylee started her job through our SYEP program, facing a daunting challenge. Her family was facing eviction by the end of July, struggling to pay back rent. But Kaylee saw an opportunity. With her first paychecks, she took it upon herself to help her father pay the overdue rent, providing the stability her family needed to stay in their home. Imagine that: a young teenager stepping up, taking on the weight of responsibility far beyond her years, all to protect the place she calls home.
Kaylee’s perseverance didn’t end there. She showed the same resilience in her work. Despite personal challenges, she not only fulfilled her duties but went above and beyond, impressing her supervisors with her dedication. Kaylee even took it upon herself to support a coworker with autism, helping him stay on task with kindness and patience. Her maturity, her compassion, and her work ethic inspired everyone around her.
Today, Kaylee has begun her journey in high school, thriving and growing into a strong young woman. Her family remains safely in their home, thanks to her bravery and the support she found through our programs. And this is why we do what we do: programs like YEP and SYEP offer so much more than financial assistance—they provide emotional strength, self-worth, and hope for a brighter future.
Kaylee’s story is a testament to the strength and potential of every young person we serve. She reminds us that, with the right support, our youth can face even the toughest challenges and come out stronger. Let’s continue to invest in their futures, because they are our hope, our pride, and our promise.
Thank you."
