Salary: $15-$18 an hour

Position Overview:

The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator will direct United Way of Kenosha County’s individual, corporate and partner volunteer engagement opportunities as well as support operational functions and special events.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee and direct the development of episodic, short-term and long-term volunteer engagement opportunities by mobilizing individuals to volunteer and positively influence community conditions.
  • Recruit volunteers and provide event management for the operational success of volunteer events plus our annual signature volunteer events - Day of Caring, Days of Action and Readers are Leaders.
  • Provide recruitment, management and communication to volunteers for United Way of Kenosha County’s tutoring program.
  • Provide recruitment, management and communication to volunteers for United Way of Kenosha County’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.  In addition, ensuring all volunteers have completed IRS certification requirements.
  • Ensure that engagement strategies with corporate and community partners align with United Way of Kenosha County’s Community Impact Agenda with emphasis on Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and Tutoring programs.
  • Manage collaborative partnerships with others in the community who are addressing volunteer engagement strategies aligned with United Way of Kenosha County’s Community Impact agendas.
  • Incorporate a continuous improvement methodology into the volunteer engagement activities in our online portal, Get Connected, and individual and group engagement opportunities.
  • Manage the collection, analysis and dissemination of data and outcome information internally within United Way of Kenosha County to help convey how activities assist in demonstrating community change to our donors and constituents.
  • Create public awareness and promotion of volunteer opportunities through press releases, print ads and social media.
  • In coordination with United Way of Kenosha County staff, develop and manage electronic, printed and social media to support United Way of Kenosha County initiatives and events.
  • Assist with workplace campaigns, assembling, distributing and picking up materials.
  • Assist in scheduling Volunteer Income Tax Assistance clients and answering calls.




  • Strong written and oral communications, including group presentation skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Comfort working in a team environment
  • Demonstrated experience in project management with multiple deadlines and stakeholders
  • Ability to build consensus, collaborate with and convene multiple partners in efforts that produce specific deliverables and demonstrable outcomes
  • Ability to take concepts from initiation to completion with minimal supervision
  • At least two years of experience in a nonprofit environment
  • A BA or BS degree, or at least 6 years of equivalent experience without a degree
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Prefer online research experience
